The plane! The plane!

Recently a friend told me that I talk too much about Amazon, self-publishing and the publishing industry in general. “Your readers don’t care about that stuff,” she said. She said that I should be wary of creating a brand for myself that has nothing to do with my actual writing. “Talk about your books,” she said. Here’s the thing though: I do talk about my books. All. The. Freaking. Time. I post excerpts from my books on my Facebook page. […]

Mercury Begins! (for real)

August 23, 2012 Rob 0

My short story prelude to the Mercury trilogy is now available in the Kindle store for $0.99! I know, I promised it was going to be free. I still plan to make it free eventually, but I’m having a little trouble getting Amazon to reduce the price (generally ebooks have to be at least $0.99, except for special promotions). In any case, it’s $0.99, you cheapskate. You spend more than that driving to Starbucks to get a cup of coffee […]

Mercury Begins (almost)

August 21, 2012 Rob 0

“Mercury Begins” is done and I just got the final version of the cover from the artist last night. Hopefully I will have it available as a free Kindle download in the next couple of days. “Mercury Begins” is my attempt to introduce new readers to the character and his world. You’ll learn, among other fun facts, the real story of the Trojan Horse and how rubbers were invented. It’s not what you think. For those who are confused, the […]

Publishing, self-publishing and Amazon Publishing, oh my!

August 17, 2012 Rob 0

Recently I wrote a post titled “Almost Famous,” about how strange it is to be a successful author whom no one has heard of. The post prompted a question from a Facebook friend who asked whether I was now irrevocably on the side of self-publishing and would never consider going with a traditional publisher. I replied, “Well, you know that being self-published and being published by Amazon are two different things, right?” She didn’t. Most people, even lots of authors […]

Almost Famous

August 15, 2012 Rob 0

I’m in a weird position these days. Don’t get me wrong; I’m not complaining. Since being picked up by AmazonEncore, my books have sold more copies than I ever imagined possible. I’m on the verge of actually being able to make a living from my books. In fact, if I didn’t live in a too-big house in a too-expensive part of the country, I would be making a living. I should probably explain that it’s virtually impossible to make a […]

Facelift!

August 14, 2012 Rob 0

Lately I’ve been doing so much work on New Wave Authors and BookBloggers.net that I’ve neglected my own site. Today I finally had a chance to give it a little facelift. The angel graphic at the top is a detail from the Mercury Rests cover, designed by the lovely and talented Dave from Blogography. I think it looks pretty nice up there. I also added that fancy book widget over to the right and a bunch of social networking stuff […]

Book review: The Princess Bride

August 10, 2012 Rob 0

Recently I’ve been working on a sort of epic fantasy parody called Disenchanted, and I was feeling in need of inspiration, so I decided to see how William Goldman handled a humorous fantasy adventure story in The Princess Bride. I have, of course, seen the movie, and yes I love it. How could I not? The book is quite good, and while many scenes in the movie follow the book verbatim, there are a number of differences, and I think […]

Come like my new author page on Facebook!

August 9, 2012 Rob 0

Today I decided to finally create a separate Robert Kroese Author Page on Facebook. I had already set up a Mercury Falls page, but I decided I needed a more generic page focused on all my books — especially now that the Mercury trilogy is coming to a close. I’ve resisted creating a separate author page until now because I don’t like the idea of maintaining two online identities, one for my friends and one for my fans. But it […]

I was looking forward to displaying my SEVERE BOWEL AND/OR URINARY TRACT CONDITION excuse card at my desk while surreptitiously reading Mercury Falls in the ladies room. Sadly, I realized that by ordering the Kindle edition of Mercury Falls I would not have that option. My question is, how do I get my official SEVERE BOWEL AND/OR URINARY TRACT CONDITION excuse card now?!

August 3, 2012 Rob 0

My apologies! Due to a printing error in The Force is Middling in this One, and a similar, although unrelated printing error in Mercury Falls, neither book actually contained a laminated card reading: PLEASE EXCUSE MY FREQUENT TRIPS TO THE BATHROOM AS I HAVE A SEVERE BOWEL AND/OR URINARY TRACT CONDITION Be assured that the problem has been corrected and the responsible parties have been fired. I have verified that the card WILL be printed on page 212 of Mercury […]
