Before I wrote Mercury Falls, I made several abortive attempts to write a “serious” science fiction novel. I came up with what I thought were some pretty good ideas, but once I got beyond the planning stage and started writing, I found the process excruciating. The problem with writing a serious novel is that to make it work, you have to have a pretty good idea what the finished product is going to look like. And that generally means lots […]
“I’m not a coward, I’ve just never been tested. I’d like to think that if I was I would pass.” – The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, “The Impression that I Get” Even the most jingoistic of American apologists recognizes that there have been some dark episodes in our history – slavery, Japanese internment camps, and Jim Crow laws come to mind. For most of us, though, these horrors occurred to long ago for us to have done much about them. It […]
I’ve wanted to make a movie almost as long as I’ve wanted to write a novel. Lately I’ve been thinking more about how to make that happen, and I even started adapting one of my novels (Schrodinger’s Gat, which hasn’t been published yet) into a screenplay. To that end I recently picked up three books on the subject. The first, Save the Cat, was recommended to me by my friend Wayne Franklin, who has a book of his own coming out that you […]
It’s now included in Monday Morning in the Mailroom of Good and Evil. Same story, same price, but you get a bunch of other stuff along with it now. Because that’s how I roll.
Just a quick post to let you know I’ve just published two new short ebooks on Amazon.com: Into the Dark (and Two Other Stories) is a collection of three short stories (“Don’t Stop Believing”, “Into the Dark” and “Still Life”). Monday Morning in the Mailroom of Good and Evil is a collection of humor pieces, including the stories “Mercury Swings” and “Drug City, USA.” I hope you enjoy them!
It’s possible. I’ve got a few ideas floating around; we’ll see if they coalesce into anything usable. I’d like to keep the first three books as a more-or-less self-contained trilogy, so if I do write another Mercury book, it will probably be a standalone novel featuring mostly new characters. In the meantime, I’ve got several other projects in various stages of completion. My memoir, Not Living Up to My Potential, should be available in a couple of weeks. I’ve also […]
I’m very happy to announce that the crummy church signs compilation that Joel Bezaire and I put together is now available on Kindle and in paperback! Temptation Bangs Forever is a collection of over 200 of the most horrific and unintentionally hilarious church signs from over three years of submissions to the Crummy Church Signs blog. From the inexplicably hostile (“SATAN WILL RULE YOU ALL”) to the cringe-inducing (“THE SIZE OF THE TOOL DOESN’T MATTER IN THE MASTER’S HAND”), these signs […]
I’m very happy to announce that all six episodes of my humorous fantasy story Disenchanted are now available in convenient novelized form in both paperback and Kindle formats. Disenchanted is the story of Boric the Implacable, who is cursed to wander the Land of Dis until he can figure out how to rid himself of the enchanted sword Brakslaagt. On his way to meet the mysterious Lord Brand, Boric is stabbed, scorched, riddled with arrows and nearly blown to bits. The […]
I have a pipe but my wife hid it. I don’t think she loves the aroma as much as you think.
Have you tried looking under Sci-Fi/Humor – Awesome? Seriously, that’s a question you should ask the librarian. If enough people ask, they will order it.
